Duties

I performed all character rigging on this job.

Animators needed to be able to liberally populate their scenes with hamsters of different proportions.

To avoid excessive back-and-forth with guide-based builds, I built a single ‘master’ rig with two modes: one for animation, and another allowing the rig to be dynamically reproportioned within the animation scenes.

A lot of the hamster animation was derived from footage of on-set dancers. Therefore I additionally duplicated most rig controls as ‘offsets’, to allow for an initial plate-matching pass.

The main challenge was to ensure that these added layers didn’t compromise the rigs’ full feature set, comprising IK / FK blending, animation spaces, fleshy facial rigging and so on.
